How can CBD help Cancer?

  • CBD has the ability to prevent or retard the spread of malignant cells and deprive cancer cells of nutrients

“(CBD) exerts its anti-proliferative” (to prevent or retard the spread of malignant cells into surrounding tissues) and “anti-angiogenic” (cancer cells deprived of nutrients) and “pro-apoptotic activity through various mechanisms…”

  • Cannabinoids may inhibit cancer growth, killing cancer cells while protecting normal cells.

“Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of  blood vessels needed by tumors  to grow. Labratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.”

  • CBD has analgesic, pain relieving, anti-inflammatory and antineoplastic properties, inhibiting or preventing the growth and spread of tumors or malignant cells

According to the National Cancer Institute, CBD “Cannabidiol, a phytocannabinoid derived from Cannabis species, which is devoid of psychoactive activity, with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antineoplastic” (inhibiting or preventing the growth and spread of tumors or malignant cells) and “chemopreventive activities…”

  • CBD activates your body's ability to detoxify, repair, reduce inflammation and regenerate, promoting destruction of cells that are a threat.

“CBD stimulates endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and inhibits AKT/mTOR signaling, thereby activating autophagy” (your body’s ability to detoxify, repair, and regenerate itself, reduces inflammation and slows down the aging process) “and promoting apoptosis” (cells that are no longer needed or are a threat to the organism are destroyed by a cell suicide process known as programmed cell death/apoptosis)

  • CBD Oil may have significant benefits in treating and preventing cancer as well as aiding in reducing symptoms associated with chemotherapy

“CBD Oil may have significant benefits in treating and preventing cancer as well as aiding in reducing symptoms associated with chemotherapy. Cannabinoids are known to have palliative effects in oncology, including relief of chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting, appetite stimulation, pain relief, mood elevation, and sleep in cancer patients (see the separate entries for nausea and vomiting, eating disorders, pain, depression, and sleep disorders in this chapter for information on treating these symptoms).
Authors of a 2013 evidence review on CBD and cancer wrote that “cannabinoids possess anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic effects and they are known to interfere with tumor neovascularization, cancer cell migration, adhesion, invasion and metastasization. However the clinical use of ∆ 9 THC and additional cannabinoid agonists is often limited by their unwanted psychoactive side effects, and for this reason interest in non-psychoactive cannabinoid compounds… such as cannabidiol (CBD), has substantially increased in recent years.”
Using cannabis as a therapy to reduce cancer activity and tumor size does require high doses of cannabis medicine. THC is very effective in shrinking the tumor size, 268 and CBD is very effective in stopping the proliferation of new cancer cells. 269 While both THC and CBD are effective anti-cancer agents, the combination of CBD and THC together has exhibited even greater efficacy for healing. There is a true synergistic relationship between CBD and THC; the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. There is evidence that a combination of the various cannabinoids and terpenes found in products derived from the whole plant is the most effective approach.”

We've all heard stories about someone experiencing relief from their pain and/or disease through the use of cannabis and the healing properties of CBD.  We read and listen intently, but most people do not take the time to learn more.  There are many misconceptions about cannabis, mainly that all cannabis contains THC (the ingredient that makes someone high).
